Introduction
As De Montfort University continues its status as a United Nations Academic Impact Hub for United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, it is increasingly being asked to share expertise in all aspects of sustainable development to policy advisors. One of the key mechanisms for this exchange of knowledge in the form of a written policy brief. DMU has the opportunity to share its knowledge and research to the UN and UN-related NGOs through a brief template format which is common amongst policymakers and advisors. Typically these consist of 700 words and may use photographs or graphs to convey or evidence key messages. The briefs must be a concise summary of a particular issue, show the policy options to deal with it, and some recommendations on the best option, based on research findings. They are aimed at, or requested by, UN departments and agencies, governments and NGOs who are interested in formulating or influencing policy. Those interested in learning more about writing research for policy contact Dr Mark Charlton, Policy Commission Module Leader in DMU Politics via mcharlton@dmu.ac.uk. The Policy Briefs contained on this website are submitted by DMU researchers or research partners to the university.
